This Rococo grand piano is a marvel of veneer intarsia. One of the oldest and most labor-intensive techniques in woodwork art is the intricate inlay intarsia – where the different varietals of wood are used to create a naturally contrasting surface. Our artisans take it to the highest level of Rococo style designing patterns and tableaux all over the instrument’s body. In some instances, the inside of the lid is also realized in intarsia, creating a feast for the eye.
This magnificent woodwork is complemented by 24K gold-covered bronze sculptural elements supporting the piano from beneath and adorning its surface. The so-uniquely Rococo tapered scalloped bottom of the piano’s rim is embraced by a gilded contour featuring bas relief heads at the top of each leg. The massive structure is held together by a sculpted support beam just above the floor, also gilded in 24K gold.
